What a Week!!

Christ is Risen!

It's been a really long week for me both in terms of being physically and emotionally exhausting. I've done a lot out in the yard. Mowed the grass, laid two new gardens, planted more seeds in the starters (and discovered I planted the salad seeds wrong as they go on top of the soil, not underneath so I gotta fix that!). We've cleared some more from around the pond. Lots and lots of good hard physical work (and no the stuff I listed is not an exhaustive list of what all has happened in the yard this week - just an overview).

I've also suffered from some grand haeadaches and hurt my upper back as well. The headaches are normal. I get them from time to time for no apparent reason. I'm sort of used to them by now but they are still annoying and I'm not the easiest person to live with when I have certain strength headaches. If I get the really awful ones, I'm very quiet and don't move and certainly don't talk. The kids and hubby definitely get the picture when I don't move nor answer and generally have a pillow over my head. I'll be happy when I can get all this heavy metal out of my body, as we believe this is the cause behind my headaches. The one I got Monday lasted until Wednesday morning. Monday was the worst - I don't even want to cover how bad a day that turned out to be - I'd like to erase it from history it was that bad.

Wednesday, DD11 got her cast off, but more in another post about that. And we got a saddle!

Thursday I did some yard work with the weedeater and lawnmower. Well something I did hurt my upper back. I literally couldn't move. It still has a spot that hurts between my shoulder blades near my spine ... it's a muscle, of that I can tell for sure, but it hurts like the dickens when I move certain ways. I'm just happy that it is now confined to that one little spot and not the whole area like it was Thursday and part of Friday.

I'm still working on getting up early, but it's slow going. Things always pop up to get in the way, but I'll find a way to make it all work!! I think I'll try to cover another portion of Proverbs 31 this next week.

Arising Early

Christ is Risen!

This morning was my first morning for arising early. Due to it being weekend status and the children have in the past been allowed to stay up a little later than normal to watch a couple of things on TV (everything else they watch is recorded so that we have control over when they watch TV - ie during a rainy day, they are so sick they can do nothing more than lay around, etc - otherwise the TV is off). Anyway, they kept me up for awhile last night. They weren't being loud or anything, I was just aware of them being up, could hear things, and so forth. I did go to bed somewhere around 9:45 as well. I figured I could get up at 6am ... I tried, realized I had been cold a good portion of the night and got an extra cover, reset the alarm for 45 min later, and was able to get up at the first snooze - just suddenly my eyes popped open and I was ready to go. guess I just needed a little time under some warm covers lol.

I'm going to be gentle with myself concerning arising early. I know the things going on in my life, I know the obstacles I need to figure things out around, I know my health, and I know that unless the Lord so directs me that I am to go about things slowly as to make them habits! Otherwise I burn out no matter my good intentions.

So anyway, I arose, reverenced the Lord, put in my contacts, brushed my teeth, put on my socks, went and checked on the children, gave a load of clothing to my maiden, the washing machine, put away a load of dishes and gave another load to my maiden, the dishwasher. Then I sliced cantaloupe ~ oh the sweet juicy goodness ~ for breakfast. Oh how the children will be so excited to see this! They adore cantaloupe :) I have it set out on the table ready to eat as they tumble out of bed and make their way to me and the kitchen.

My DD11 will be so excited to see all of the seeds! Last year my dear husband started throwing compost directly into the garden (couldn't believe he didn't know better) ... but one of the things he threw in was some cantaloupe rind and seeds. Honestly because they were store bought I didn't think they would sprout - but they did ~ alllll over the garden!! It was comical and thankfully didn't choke any of the other plants out. So I'm looking forward to sprouting some with her especially since she doesn't like watermelon.

I'm off to fold and put away the mountain of laundry my DS9 learned to wash and dry!

Rental House

Christ is Risen!

I've been at the rental house all day long today ... I got a lot accomplished. Most of the garage is cleaned out. I've got some things to arrange a foundation to come pick up and some chemicals I have to find out where to dispose of (hardware store, etc). Some stuff is going home with me and will perfect to make a crafting work area in our own garage (a table, a sewing table, a book shelf, some rubbermaid bins, a rocking chair). I will have to wait to bring it home with us until next week when I won't have the youngest kiddos with me, that way I can take out all the back seats in the car and use the whole back part of the car (two rows worth) to put in all these things and transport them back to the house.

Inside some of the painting was completed. More wasn't physically accomplished because I had to make a trip to the hardware store to get a toilet and some quarter round. I forgot about some other small things we needed but I can always get them another day.

We've also got some yard work and landscaping stuff to do and some minor things on the outside of the house to complete. Some will just have to wait though.

I'm gonna be so happy when this project is completed and we can finally rent this place out again. We've certainly learned a great lesson from this last tenant.

Rising early

Christ is Risen!

I want to focus on Proverbs 31:15 ... I will give several versions ...

15: She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
~~She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day's work for her servant girls.
~~She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and tasks for her maidens.
~~She riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens.
~~And she riseth while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and the day's work to her maidens.

As I've gotten older I have come to realize the wisdom in this verse. Arising early. It means going to bed early or else being tired. Just like last night when I tried to go to bed right at 9 but life happened. I got in bed just after 1030 ... translation, I didn't get up until 6 cause I just couldn't get my body moving. This gave me just enough time to get ready for school this morning. And because of my lack of having a place to put my keys each time I come in the door, I spent 15-20 minutes searching for them and was a bit late to class.

What about the other part of the verse... well I learned from another wise woman how to have it work for us. "and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens." or "She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and tasks for her maidens." - we make breakfast for our household (which is easy in this household since it is fruit and maybe some vegan milk & cereal since we aren't 100% raw vegan again yet). But who are our maidens? Why our dishwasher and washing machine, of course! They start washing for us so that we may concentrate on other things - like devotions and prayers :) This is the thing I want to really concentrate on doing again. My goal is 5 am ... which in reality isn't too early. Lots of people get up that early to leave for work by 6. If I can get to where I can get up at 5 consistently (which means getting in bed by 9 consistently) then I will feel pretty good about this. I'm always more productive in the mornings and it is such a great feeling to be prepared for my family when they awaken (or are awakened!). Life runs much more smoothly when things are prepared ahead of time.

Well, the children are slowly getting ready this morning. I really wanted to leave by 10 but apparently that isn't going to happen - looks like by 1030 at the latest though... not too bad.

Seedlings!

Christ is Risen!

I'm so excited about my seedlings. I've been so far behind on getting seeds planted when I really need to be ready to put all the seedlings in the ground in a couple of weeks after the cold snap. But I shall not lament ... I will simply go get more seeds that I need and plant them either tonight when we get home, or in the morning.

Currently I have watermelon, spinach, tomato, and bell pepper seedlings! The watermelon and tomatoes have really sprouted, the bell peppers are barely starting to peek through the dirt while one spinach sprouted with the watermelons and another has popped up and I just saw two more starting to peek. I have so much to get out there. I've also gotta get another two beds ready to plant in! One is the herb garden (echinacea, stevia, basil, oregano, chives, chamomile, lemon balm, etc). The other is just another veggie garden. Our little 10x10 square just isn't big enough anymore. I wanna grow a ton of lettuce/spinach because that is what we go through the most - at a head or more a day and I want the garden to keep up with us.
I also want to get the window farm up and running soon *sigh*

So much to do and so little time to do it in. Man I feel like a slacker.

Proverbs 31

Christ is Risen!

Yes, we've all heard of this woman - this woman that all women should strive to be like. I've studied this passage on and off over the years and it's been on my heart to study yet again, so I am. I want to take it apart a bit at a time and work on it a bit at a time. I'm sure my interpretations will change over time but that is the purpose of this blog ... somewhere for me to work things out ... putting my thoughts out there concretely so to speak.

Anyway, in Proverbs 31 there are verses for men as well when the mother is instructing the son in wisdom. Though beginning with verse 10 she instructs him on another wise decision - a virtuous wife. Here is what she tells him:

10: Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies.
11: The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12: She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13: She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14: She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15: She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16: She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17: She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18: She perceiveth that her merchandise [is] good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19: She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20: She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21: She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household [are] clothed with scarlet.
22: She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple.
23: Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24: She maketh fine linen, and selleth [it]; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25: Strength and honour [are] her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26: She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue [is] the law of kindness.
27: She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28: Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her.
29: Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30: Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31: Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

I will leave with this tonight as I need to get in bed in the next few minutes so that I may get up early ... like the Proverbs woman ... in order to go to class, as well as pack up the children, food, playthings, etc, in order to go work at the rental house tomorrow.

Ponder, pray, and share any thoughts you may have.

First Post Butterflies

Christ is Risen!

there's always something nerve-wracking about first posts ... you wanna make a good first impression - I guess that's the way it is with most things in life ... you also go through this whole ordeal - do I give a background first or do I delve right in explaining things as I go? I'm gonna do a combination ... back ground will come in the about me section (if I can get it all figured out) as well as through posts.

for the time being though, I wanna give my purpose for my blog ... it's not really much of one. I just wanted to start a small family blog about the things I'm doing with my family, about how I feel about things, about the struggles to understand and come to decisions and conclusions about things I haven't decided on yet, and so forth. sometimes I feel like I'm still a young teenager trying to figure out where I stand on certain things and then on other things I know exactly where I stand and there isn't going to be any changing it. for many things I have totally reached identity achievement, while in other things I am in a mixture of identity moratorium and identity diffusion because some things I am still exploring trying to figure out where I stand and others I have not really begun exploration and simply am where I am because it's what "everyone else does" or "my parents/family/friends do" ... but in a way most everyone is in a combination of these stages throughout their lives as it is.

well i guess that's deep enough for a first post!
